About us
Since 1986, David Lee has practiced criminal-defense law exclusively. He has tried cases in Detroit and throughout the country. He represents individuals from all walks of life and those connected to the sports, music and entertainment industries in criminal matters, both in Detroit and elsewhere. Furthermore, he represents a significant number of police officers and allied law enforcement professionals in both state and federal court. Today, the majority of his practice consists of Federal Court “white and blue collar” litigation, however, he appears frequently in state courts for felonies ranging from drug offenses to criminal sexual conduct and other crimes of alleged violence and fraud.

The philosophy of David’s practice is simple. “I maintain a manageable caseload, make sure my clients have as much access to me as possible and do everything I can to obtain the best results under the circumstances. Also, I try never to forget that my clients are human beings first, and not just people that are accused of crimes. There are no guarantees or promises in my practice, except for those.”
David is a Sole Practitioner that emphasizes personal face to face representation. You will not deal with a paralegal, law clerk or other associate attorneys. I rarely, if ever, have used stand ins. From the beginning to the end of your case you will deal with me.

David Lee is a 1981 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Detroit’s Liberal Arts Honors Program. While at U of D, he was a top varsity tennis player. Before becoming an attorney, he worked as a tennis teaching professional and managed several Detroit area bands and musicians. David received his law degree from Wayne State University in 1986. While in law school, he was a member of Wayne’s National Trial Team and a recipient of the Barris Award for excellence in trial advocacy. He was also elected by his peers to serve on the law school’s Student Board of Governors.

United States V. Bartkus

In 1989, David tried his first Federal case, United States v. Bartkus, wherein he represented the only defendant in this multi-defendant case to go to trial.
United States v. Abro, 93-80140, ED Mich (Judge Barbara Hackett)
In 1993, David obtained his first federal not guilty verdict in the case of United States v. Abro, et al. This win came in the wake of David’s 20 consecutive “not guilty” state court verdicts.
People v. Govender (Judge Patricia Fresard, Wayne County Circuit Court)
David successfully represented an accomplished nurse in People v. Govender. In this case, Govender had killed her infant son and attempted suicide in a rage of postpartum psychosis.
